Almont Community Schools is seeking support from voters for a $58.4-million bond in an upcoming election on February 27. The bond proposal aims to fund various infrastructure and safety improvements, instructional enhancements, and recreational areas at Almont High School, Almont Middle School, and Orchard Primary School.

If approved, the bond would result in a reduction of the district's millage from 8.45 mills to 7.0 mills, starting in the 2025 tax year. This reduction is expected to secure lower interest rates on the bond and provide more funds for the proposed projects. Property owners within the school district would also benefit from a lower annual millage tax rate.

The bond proposal includes the construction of eight new classrooms and a shared STEM (Science Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) classroom for the middle school and Orchard Primary School. Additionally, an 80,000-square-foot multi-purpose building/fieldhouse will be developed to serve as a venue for athletic events, academic programs, and community activities.

Enhancements to Instructional and Recreational Areas

The bond proposal aims to enhance instructional and recreational areas in Almont Community Schools. This includes technology updates and renovations to classrooms, the media center, band room, cafeteria, and lecture hall at Almont High School. The proposed improvements also cover the construction of a new high school track, the transition of the high school football field to artificial turf, and upgrades to bleacher seating.

In addition, the bond would provide funding for the construction of eight new classrooms and a shared STEM classroom for the middle school and Orchard Primary School. These enhancements will create modern and engaging learning environments for students.

Infrastructure and Safety Improvements

Ensuring the safety of students and staff is a top priority for Almont Community Schools. The bond proposal includes security enhancements for each of the district's three buildings. Infrastructural updates will be made to HVAC systems, boilers, security features, roofs, lighting, classroom furniture, and parking lots.

By investing in these improvements, Almont Community Schools aims to create a secure and conducive learning environment for all students.
