First on the list is the Impossible Jamaican Beef Patty with Spicy Papaya Syrup at the La Isla Fresca Outdoor Kitchen. Although the Impossible patty had decent flavor and a bit of spice, the pastry shell brought down the overall quality. Cutting it was a challenge, and eating it by hand could get messy. The spicy papaya syrup added some flavor but also contributed to the potential messiness.
The Sope de Chilorio at the Jardin de Fiestas Outdoor Kitchen also disappointed. While the guajillo pepper-braised pork had excellent flavor, the fried corn shell hindered the dish. It didn't add any favorable taste and was difficult to cut with plastic silverware. We hope the preparation method improves as the festival continues.
The Quattro Formaggi at the Primavera Kitchen in the Italy area didn't impress our group either. This dish, consisting of pennette pasta and a four-cheese sauce, lacked distinct cheese flavors.
