This neighborhood hangout was a popular spot for karaoke, live music, comedy shows, and dance parties. Its closing marks the end of an era for the local nightlife scene.

New Date for AVL Food Series Dinner

The AVL Food Series, a year-long program showcasing local chefs and cuisines, had to reschedule its first dinner due to the chef's illness. However, a new date has been announced for the event. On March 14, Chef Michelle Bailey, former owner and executive chef of Smoky Park Supper Club, will prepare a four-course dinner at The Mule. Using her custom-built Santa Maria fire table named Jolene, she will showcase her culinary skills and create a memorable dining experience. Ticketholders of the original event can have their tickets honored for the new date or contact Shay & Company for refunds.

Sage & Spice Market Hosts Asian-Inspired Dinner

Renowned chef and restaurateur Jay Medford will be hosting a special five-course dinner at Sage & Spice Market on March 22. Infusing Japanese and Korean influences with his Southern and classically trained culinary techniques, Medford aims to create a unique dining experience. The menu will feature gluten-free dishes prepared with locally sourced ingredients. From an ube coconut bisque to a seared sea scallop entrée, guests can expect a fusion of flavors. Limited to 24 guests, this exclusive event promises to be a culinary delight.

Wicked Weed Brewing's Sustainability Achievement

Wicked Weed Brewing, an Asheville-based craft beer brewery, has achieved recognition for its commitment to sustainability. The brewery's main production facility in Candler was awarded a Gold certification under the Total Resource Use and Efficiency rating system. This system promotes sustainable waste management and reduction methods. Wicked Weed Brewing is one of only three breweries in the United States to receive this prestigious designation. In 2023, the brewery diverted 99.3% of its waste, sending less than 0.7% of materials to landfills. Recycling over 100 tons of materials, composting over 11,000 lbs., and repurposing spent grain as cattle feed are just a few of the practices that contributed to this achievement. The brewery also implemented community recycling initiatives and introduced reusable packaging, further reducing its environmental impact.
