Following the tremendous success of last year's inaugural event, this year's festival went above and beyond to display the vibrant and varied flavors of Indian cuisine. The event was graced by Upender Singh Rawat, India's High Commissioner to Uganda, who highlighted the significance of preserving and celebrating native cultures, even in diaspora.

Santosh Gumte, the Managing Director of Kansai Plascon, emphasized the role of traditional food in fostering a sense of comfort and belonging within communities. He stated that traditional food brings people together and contributes to the values of India.

MasterChef Competition Highlights Culinary Expertise and Indigenous Flavors

The festival's main highlight was the MasterChef competition, which saw participation from different provinces of India, each showcasing their culinary expertise and indigenous flavors. Teams representing diverse communities competed in a friendly yet competitive contest.

Dilap Bhandari, the Chairperson of JITO, highlighted the importance of the competition in promoting cultural exchange and understanding. He mentioned that the food showcased during the festival represents the diverse provincial cultures to the people of Uganda and the East African Community states.

Chef Aruna Vijay, a finalist in Mastechef India - 2023, served as one of the judges in the MasterChef competition at the State Food Festival in Uganda. She described the experience as enriching and inspiring, witnessing the passion and creativity of the contestants in showcasing their culinary traditions. She emphasized that events like these not only celebrate diversity but also foster cultural exchange and understanding, creating a platform for culinary innovation and appreciation.

Awards Ceremony Recognizes Culinary Skills and Creativity

The event concluded with an awards ceremony, where participants were recognized for their culinary skills and creativity. The panel of judges presented awards to the winners, acknowledging their outstanding contributions to the festival.
