The sun shone brightly in Ventnor as the town celebrated the official opening of a beloved seafront walkway. The walkway, known as 'the Cascade', is part of the seafront's Rene Howe Walk and has been a popular spot for locals and visitors alike.

After some delays with the railings being made, the walkway was finally opened on Friday. The opening coincided with the traditional Easter bank holiday opening of Ventnor's iconic paddling pool, adding to the excitement of the day.

To mark the completion of the walkway, Ventnor Town Council organized a range of activities and entertainment. The Ventnor Carnival royalty, led by their queen Suzie Carpenter, 11, joined committee members to cut the ribbon and officially declare the walkway open.

Children's games were set up near the paddling pool, bringing joy to the younger visitors. The Ventnor Ukulele Group provided live music, adding to the festive atmosphere. Free Easter eggs were also handed out, bringing smiles to the faces of both young and old.

The Spyglass Inn contributed to the celebrations by sending a crew of pirates to entertain the crowd. The Easter Bunny made an appearance, spreading happiness and delighting the visitors. Another highlight of the day was a performance by the zany Ventnor Comic Jazz Band, who entertained the crowd with their unique style.

The project to replace the old Victorian railings with modern safety standards and resurface the walkway was undertaken by Island Roads, with the assistance of several local contractors and suppliers. This collaboration ensured the successful completion of the project, providing the community with a revamped and safe walkway for all to enjoy.

In addition to the walkway opening, a water fountain on the Esplanade was blessed in a ceremony, adding a touch of serenity to the bustling seafront.

Despite some initial delays, the official opening of Ventnor's seafront walkway was a resounding success. The community came together to celebrate this beloved spot and enjoy the Easter festivities. With the sun shining and smiles all around, it was a day to remember for Ventnor and its visitors.
