Waterford Festival of Food 2024: Connecting People with Food
Waterford Festival of Food, one of Ireland's largest and longest-running community food festivals, has just announced its 2024 programme. With the theme of 'Connecting People with Food', the festival will feature over 80 events from 19th to 21st April 2024.
The main hub for the festival will be in the picturesque town of Dungarvan, Co. Waterford, with additional events taking place in nearby areas such as Lismore, Villierstown, Kilmeaden, Cappoquin, and Ardmore. This diverse range of events will showcase the flavors and characters unique to this food region.
A Celebration of Flavors and Characters
Waterford Festival of Food is a celebration of the flavors and characters that make this region unique. The programme for this year's festival includes guided taste tours, kitchen table talks with influential figures from Ireland's food scene, high-profile guest chef dining events, sustainability workshops, and pop-up experiences in unconventional locations.
Attendees can also enjoy foraging trails, food waste talks, bus tours to farms and mountains, live cooking demonstrations, and the festival's famous market, which is Ireland's largest outdoor market, held in Dungarvan's Market Square on the final day.
Behind the Bite: A Portrait Series of Local Food Heroes
Among the new events introduced this year is the "Behind the Bite Exhibition" at Tom Currans store on the Quay. This visually stunning exhibition features black and white portraits of 40 local food trailblazers captured by photographer Joleen Cronin. The exhibition titled 'Behind the Bite: a Portrait Series of our Local Food Heroes' offers a glimpse into the lives of those who contribute to the local food scene.
Fitness, Food, and Fun
On Saturday, attendees can participate in a fitness event called "Fit for Breakfast" led by personal trainer Karl Henry, followed by a nutritious breakfast inspired by Flahavans at 360 Cookhouse. Iconic British Chef Rowley Leigh will also guest chef at The Tannery, and there will be a guided walking tour of Dungarvan called the Taste Waterford 'Walk, Talk and Taste Tour.'
Taste Waterford Deno Stage and Sensory Unit
Sunday's highlights include the Taste Waterford Deno Stage, where food and drink producers will share their knowledge and experiences, and a sensory unit provided by ASD for people on the autism spectrum.
