The annual York Food Festival is shifting its focus to promote healthy eating habits and school meals. Co-organizer Michael Hjort announced that this year's festival will have a strong emphasis on schools and healthy eating, aligning with the City of York Council's initiative to promote school meals and the York Art and Health Mela.

The festival, scheduled to run from September 20 to September 29, will take place in various locations throughout the city center, including Parliament Street, St Crux Church, and Museum Gardens. Despite the shift in focus, the festival will still feature its traditional activities that have been enjoyed by attendees since its inception in 1997.

As always, the festival will offer a wide array of market stalls, street food, bars, live music, tastings, and trails for visitors to enjoy. Additionally, weekend activities such as breadmaking, pasta making, beer and wine tastings will be offered. With over 80 stalls expected to participate, the festival promises to provide a diverse and enjoyable experience for all attendees.

The festival is open to collaboration with third parties of any kind, welcoming schools, manufacturers and retailers of health foods, gyms, and fitness products. Cllr Bob Webb, Executive Member for Children, Young People and Education at the City of York Council, expressed his excitement for the festival and ongoing discussions regarding their support for the council's free school meals campaign.

The York Food Festival is a non-profit organization that reinvests any profits from ticket sales and trader fees into improving the festival for the following year. In addition to the food festival, the Food and Health Mela on September 22 will offer a multicultural experience in Museum Gardens, featuring entertainment, food, and information stands from the NHS and arts sector.
