The Kensington Derby and Arts Festival is back this spring, promising a bigger and better celebration of art, community, and fun. Now in its 16th year, this vibrant event will take place on May 11 in the lively neighborhood of East Kensington, Philadelphia.
With its unique blend of creativity and humor, the festival showcases the quirky and creative derby race, where participants compete in vehicles made from recycled bicycles and other materials. This three-mile race is open to anyone with a bike, helmet, and a silly team name. Expect to navigate through bubbles, mud, and various obstacles, passing by local businesses and buildings in East Kensington and Fishtown. The race culminates in a thrilling mud pit at Amber Street.
But the derby is just the beginning. The festival also boasts over 150 vendors offering a wide array of food and artistic goods.
